Russia sees record demand for sneakers

Sales of sneakers in the Russian Federation in January-July 2024 in monetary terms amounted to 44,8 billion rubles, according to a report by the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT; operator of the Honest Sign labeling system). This is the highest figure in at least the last three years, Vedomosti reports.

Over the same period in 2023, 32 billion rubles were spent on sneakers, and over the seven months of 2022 and 2021 – 18,4 billion and 17 billion rubles, respectively.

The average price for a pair of sneakers in the period from January to July 2024 was 3699 rubles, in the same period a year earlier it was 3109 rubles. And in January-July 2022 and 2021, the average price for sneakers was 3857 rubles and 4071 rubles, respectively.

Market participants confirm the growth in demand for sneakers. Sales of sneakers on Wildberries in the reporting period, compared to the same period a year earlier, grew by 85% in kind and by 80% in value. Adidas sneakers showed the greatest increase in sales (+252% per year).

Among other things, local production of sneakers is growing in Russia. According to the CRPT, sneaker production in Russia in January-July 2024 amounted to 6,4 million pairs, compared to 6,3 million in the same period a year earlier. At the same time, sneaker supplies from other countries increased by 43%, to 15 million pairs.
