The top ten countries by footwear consumption in the world according to APICСAPS

The Portuguese Association of Footwear, Components, and Leather Goods Manufacturers (APICCAPS) has compiled a ranking of the leading countries by footwear consumption in 2025. The top ten largest footwear consumers include China, India, the United States, Brazil, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Germany, Russia, and Indonesia.

It is noted that in 2025, footwear consumption in China, which ranks first, grew significantly, reaching 4,8 billion pairs, or approximately 21,4% of global demand. India, with 2,8 billion pairs, remains the second-largest market, but with a 12,3% share.

The United States retained third place despite a decline in consumption to 1,95 billion pairs, which reduced its share of the global market to 8,7%.

The United States is followed by Brazil (787 million pairs, 3,5%), Japan (639 million pairs, 2,8%), Pakistan (620 million pairs, 2,8%), Bangladesh (455 million pairs, 2%) and Germany (412 million pairs, 1,8%).

In 2025, Germany entered the ranking for the first time, while Mexico is outside the top ten.

Russia ranks 9th in the ranking with a consumption volume of 373 million pairs of shoes and a share of about 1,7%, while Indonesia rounds out the top ten (370 million pairs, 1,6%).
