The new Birkenstock 1774 collection draws inspiration from the style of 1920s Berlin.

Birkenstock 1774 has launched the Becomes Berlin collection, reimagining its signature styles with Art Deco-inspired details. In this collection, the German brand looks back at the cultural ferment of 1920s Berlin.

The shoe design features Art Deco buckles and delicate cutouts. The Arizona comes in velvety black and lavender, while the London and Maria come in suede cream and rich burgundy.

The Arizona and Florida designs feature bows and textile trims, while the Maria Suede and London Suede designs feature subtle adjustments to proportions and details that recall the ingenuity of early 20th-century designers.

The collection was designed by Birkenstock's Parisian studio 1774. This release continues a year of constant experimentation by the 1774 division, which is the cutting-edge design wing of the German brand.

In April, the studio debuted the Arizona CosNy sandal in durable nylon with larger sizes, followed in May by a collaboration with Maharishi on the Mogami Terra Tech streetwear. Both projects focused on new materials and contexts for the brand’s archive pieces. But Becomes Berlin takes a more cultural approach, layering historical references onto silhouettes that remain central to Birkenstock’s identity.

The shoes are made in Germany with the brand's signature footbed, highlighting the company's focus on vertical integration and European sourcing.
