Sales in the fashion and related industries in Italy (including textiles, clothing, leather goods, footwear, jewellery, eyewear and cosmetics) will fall by 2024% to 3,5 billion euros in 97,7 compared with 2023, according to an economic forecast released Tuesday by the Italian Fashion Chamber.
The 6,1% decline in sales in the first half of 2024 follows a slowdown that the industry began to experience in the second half of last year. Experts cite geopolitical instability and weak domestic demand as the main factors affecting the industry's performance.
Exports continue to be the driving force of the Italian fashion industry, increasing by 2023% to €2,9 billion in 88,8. Forecasts for 2024 confirm the positive trend: exports for the entire fashion sector are expected to grow by 5,5% this year to €93,7 billion compared to 2023. The forecast is based on the figures recorded in the first five months of 2024, when exports grew by 5,1% compared to the same period in 2023.
At the same time, the Italian Chamber of Fashion has finally approved the schedule for Milan Fashion Week, scheduled for the period from September 17 to 23. This year, the event has been extended by one more day and includes 57 physical and 8 digital fashion shows, 69 presentations, 6 presentations by appointment and 33 events.
