French shoe exports fall, imports remain flat

According to the French tannery association Alliance France de Cuir, in the first quarter of 2025, French shoe exports fell by 4% year-on-year to €1,32 billion, while imports remained at the same level at €2,09 billion.

The data also shows that 17% of imports in the reporting period came from European countries and 81% from Asian countries. In 2024, about 21% of France's footwear imports came from Europe and 77% from Asia, indicating a growing reliance on Asian manufacturers.

As Worldfootwear.com notes, France is the world's third-largest footwear importer by value and traditionally sources most of its imports from Europe), with recent data showing a gradual reorientation of supply chains towards Asia in line with global trends.
